                                                             FNV Ranch Pack Trip

Those in the community know I struggled immensely toward the end of my time in service. For those who know me well, know exactly what that struggle looked like and those who’ve watched me grow are well aware of how It was I became the man I get to be today. In ‘21 I sold most of my stuff and headed west in my truck with no plan, nothing but a destination-“West”-And I sure as hell Found it. Just west of Edson, Alberta I saw something that would change my life… The Rocky Mountains, like the ocean for some, pulled me in. They literally became the big & little brothers I found in “the boys”. I learned and earned my place in them, and they’d care for me or kill me if I I made a mistake.

I did over 1000km on horseback across various wilderness ranges in 2021 and i was sold on it. I was a horseback Rocky Mountain Man. I’ve done thousands of miles in the mountains since retirement and it keeps me grounded and sane. I professionalized as a guide in fly fishing ,big game hunting for various horseback hunting outfitters from Alaska, Alberta, British Colombia, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and most recently, Africa since leaving the command -something I could not have done had I not had my experience in the saddle and it has saved my life. Dallas P, from the Hill and his partner have conceptualized sharing that experience in the form of a non - profit FNV Ranch. There were many a night in the saddle shop throwing ideas out there and they made it happen, and I get the privilege to help. If you don’t know where to turn. If you need community and connection to the land you fought for. If you just need to do something hard in the most beautiful place you’ve ever seen…. Apply for the FNV pack trip in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta. It 's10 days exclusive of travel. It’s a couple of days learning horsemanship and how to pack a mule. It’s a couple hours ride into camp and a week in the saddle checking out waterfalls and scenic vistas, fishin’ trout, eating clean food, burning wood at campfires, a sweat lodge and sleepin’ under the stars In the cathedral that is the Canadian Rockies. I live it now. Because I have to, and, maybe it’ll help y’all too.
